What are dental implants?

Dental implants are small metal posts that Dr. Park inserts into the empty sockets that formerly held your permanent teeth. Once placed, the implants fuse with your jaw bone, providing a foundation for crowns or implant-supported dentures.

Since dental implants integrate with your bone, you don’t need to remove them like dentures. They’re easier to clean, care for, and maintain as a result.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Dental implants offer various benefits, including:

  • Confidence
  • Convenience
  • Durability
  • Easier biting and chewing
  • Clearer speech

Getting dental implants may even improve your oral health. When you replace missing or extracted teeth, you can reduce the risk of more serious problems, such as gum recession and bone loss.

What does getting dental implants involve?

At Glow Dental, getting dental implants takes several visits spaced over the course of a year.

Dr. Park reviews your dental records, takes a series of oral X-rays, and completes an oral exam. If you’re missing one or more permanent teeth and you have enough jaw bone to support dental implants, you qualify for treatment.

Dr. Park numbs your mouth with a local anesthetic and inserts the implants into your empty tooth sockets. Then, she writes you a prescription for antibiotics and provides recovery instructions.

Several months later, after the implants finish integrating with your jaw, you return to Glow Dental. Dr. Park takes impressions of your mouth and sends them to a dental lab. The dental lab uses your impressions to design and manufacture crowns or implant-retained dentures.

When your crowns or implant-retained dentures are ready, you visit Glow Dental for the last time. Dr. Park lines up the restorations with your dental implants and bonds them in place. Afterward, she polishes them, provides care instructions, and explains how to prevent damage.

How long do dental implants last?

Dental implants often last a lifetime if you practice good oral hygiene.* Dr. Park recommends brushing your teeth twice daily, flossing regularly, and visiting Glow Dental every six months for preventive teeth cleaning and an oral exam.
